Michael X. St. Martin - Founder

Mr. St. Martin received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University in 1967. He was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1967 and is licensed to practice before all State and Federal Courts in Louisiana. He is a member of the Terrebonne Parish and Louisiana State Bar Associations, the American Association for Justice (previously the American Trial Lawyers Association), and the Louisiana Association for Justice (previously the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association). He was a member of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association Board of Governors from 1973-1974 and 1981-1982 and was President of the Association from 1991-1992.  Mr. St. Martin has been honored with the Louisiana Association for Justice’ Stalwart Award which honors those members who have given extraordinary service to the association and the legal profession.  Mr. St. Martin was also honored by the Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law with the St. Ives Award, which is named for the patron saint of lawyers and is presented annually to alumni who have volunteered services to the College of Law or the university, maintained the highest standards of the profession and furthered the mission of the alumni association.

Mr. St. Martin is the founder, provider, member of the Board of Directors and pro bono attorney for the Bayou Area Children’s Foundation, which has provided shelter and care to abused and neglected children since 1989.  The foundation is affiliated with The Louis Infant Crisis Center, established by St. Martin’s father and named after his brother.  Mr. St. Martin is also a strong supporter of “Margaret’s Home” of The Haven, which helps battered women and is named in his mother’s honor. He donated the house, provided for its renovation and furnishings, and has continued to support it.

Mr. St. Martin is also a strong advocate of land preservation and environmental protection. He developed the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge in Terrebonne Parish, coordinated donations for the preservation of the Cat Island Refuge, provided 700 acres in St. Mary Parish to create a black bear habitat, protected nesting bald eagles from encroaching commercial development, and more.

Mr. St. Martin’s support of local colleges and universities includes the donation of a 65-foot, fully equipped research vessel for Nicholls State University in Thibodaux for use in seafood and oyster research; the creation of the prestigious De Van Daggett Endowed Professorship of Law at Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law; and the creation of the Wendell H. Gauthier-Michael X. St. Martin Eminent Scholar Chair in Environmental Law at Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law.

In the courtroom Mr. St. Martin has litigated against Big Tobacco, Oil and Gas companies, and taken on numerous other causes for justice.  Mr. St. Martin’s practice focuses on Maritime and Aviation Law and he has successfully handled thousands of personal injury cases for seriously injured persons and families of wrongfully killed individuals in wide-ranging disputes during his extensive legal career.
